Our Story

After seeing a continued increase in neighborhood break-ins and property vandalism, a small group of Magellan Drive neighbors created an informal "security patrol". Based on community demand, in 2014 this grassroots program decided to expand the coverage area and enlist the assistance of a private security patrol. With input from successful neighboring security organizations as well as local resident input, Montclair Security was launched covering nearly 300 homes.

Established as an unincorporated non-profit, the organization is run by a team of five volunteer board members.  The organization is fully funded through membership fees with an annual budget of $40,000. Administrative costs are less than 1%, the largest expenses being website hosting fees.

With 97% membership renewal rate, Montclair Security is able to satisfy the needs of the majority of its members.

Intervention Group is pleased to join Lower Montclair residents in the design of community security and the deterrence of unwanted activity.

The leadership of IGI has over 25 years in the security industry and we are Oakland-based, Oakland residents, and with a strong commitment and heart for Oakland!  We take great pride in our history of providing security for residential neighborhoods as well as the respect and reputation we have earned.

Pictured here are Officers Santana and Ricky. Both native Oakland residents, they have a strong sense of pride in protecting our community. Fathers of children ranging in age from two to fourteen, they understand the desire to keep crime out of the neighborhood. Although they drive official-looking black Chevy Chargers, both gentlemen are very approachable and encourage members to get to know them.

The dispatch number to contact a patrol officer is: 1-877-2PATROL (1-877-272-8765). Please take the time to record the IGI Dispatch number in the phones of all family members to save time in the case of stress or urgency.

We hope you will take the time to introduce yourself to the IGI team…learning about you is important to our understanding and integration into the community to be able to observe activity that is “normal” vs that which is not.   It is our experience that resident personalization encourages community awareness and increases the likeliness that residents will call IGI Dispatch if unwanted persons/vehicles/activity is observed.
