About the Security Patrol
Montclair Security is pleased to offer neighbors membership in a cooperative patrol service committed to improving the safety of homes and people in the neighborhood.
Why Become a Member
We all know that crime continues to be unacceptably high across Oakland and OPD are unable to provide the level of protection we expect. Facing this, we use IGI to patrol our streets and provide a fast response to any incidents our members experience. As a member you help us deter crime in our neighborhood and can feel safer knowing that your incidents and concerns will be quickly responded to.
About the Organization
Montclair Security is a volunteer run organization inspired by community demand for increased home and neighborhood safety. Established in 2014, the organization provides security services to the entire lower Montclair residential area.

Why a Security-focused Organization in Lower Montclair?
Seemingly peaceful and quiet most of the time, there is criminal activity in our lovely neighborhood that can go unnoticed by many until crime strikes close to home - a neighbor, a friend or your own family. Most crimes tend to occur based on the opportunity to do so. Those opportunities can be defined as:
- Wealth/Goods
- Distracted Potential Victims
- Low Risk of Capture
We've got all the risk factors for opportunistic crime and this necessitates additional resources beyond the protection of the Oakland Police Department (OPD), in order to keep crime at bay.
Lower Montclair Security Association provides our community those additional resources in two areas:
- Response to any suspicious incident, normally much faster than OPD can respond.
- Private Security Patrol is a deterrent, reducing residential burglary and preventing the geographic spread of commercial district robberies into the residential area.

Our membership year runs June to May each year. It's time to renew or sign up so we can continue to provide service through 2025 into 2026.
